TOM GHENT “The only real validity of a writer is to communicate. Otherwise, why write?” Tom Ghent sums up his motivation for writing in those few words. And communicate he does. In his albums, "Tom Ghent" on Tetragrammaton Records, "Yankee's Rebel Son" on Kapp/MCA Records, "All Strings Attached” on Sutherland Records, or from the stage, Tom Ghent gets his point across, putting you in touch with feelings you may have forgotten you had. “All Strings Attached” is the fourth LP from the “Yankee’s Rebel Son” who began his career at age 15 when he ran away to New York. He has gone on to conquer many areas of the music business. His songs have been recorded by Kris Kristofferson, Gene Watson, Bobby Bare, Rita Coolidge, Bobby Goldsboro, Mama Cass, Michael Settle and dozens of others – “Whiskey Whiskey” is considered a standard. He has played lead guitar for Mickey Newbury, appeared as background vocalist on Joan Baez’ “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down” and Steve Goodman’s “City of New Orleans,” and his expertise in the studio is well known among his industry peers. His performances have taken him from the coffeehouses of the Greenwich Village folk scene, to country honky tonks, to the Philadelphia Folk Festival, Big Sur Folk Festival, Monterey Pop Festival, Willie Nelson Picnic, and the Hollywood Bowl. Tom also sang the title song on the soundtrack album for the Mick Jagger movie "Ned Kelly". A soundtrack which also featured Kris Kristofferson, Waylon Jennings and Jagger himself. Tom's brainchild, Sutherland Records, originally founded in 1983 as a vehicle for his self-produced "All Strings Attached" album, now boasts a roster of Ghent produced artists from the sixties including Jerry Merrick and Justin Devereaux. Tom Ghent’s songs are tender expressions of dreams and misunderstandings between father and son, man and woman, the lessons of time, and lust for the road. He delivers them in a rich, warm, expressive voice that compels the listener to understand. Listen to Tom Ghent and get to know yourself. ***************
